CBL Presents ‘Crafting Tomorrow’s Bahamas’
Connectivity as a Catalyst for Economic Growth at 33rd Annual Bahamas Business Outlook.
Dozens of the brightest minds in the Bahamas, along with a host of esteemed professionals from the Caribbean and North America gathered in the Baha Mar Convention Center to attend the 33rd Annual Bahamas Business Outlook, presented by The Counsellors Limited, in partnership with ALIV Business. This is the fourth consecutive year that ALIV Business has sponsored the landmark event.
The Bahamas Business Outlook has established itself as a fixture in the country’s economic calendar; a time to discuss financial forecasts, emerging trends, and technological developments to improve our collective outlook.
The conference opened with a keynote address presented by the nation’s leader, the Hon. Phillip Davis in keeping with the theme, Future Branding the National Identity and Planning for Success. Prime Minister Davis’ speech touched on a plethora of opportunities for advancement along with a handful of challenges that he believes The Bahamas faces on its way forward, most pertinently, the recent surge in violent crime. He outlined a ‘four-pillar’ approach to tackle crime including: parenting, prevention, policing, and prosecution. He also discussed opportunities to improve our tourism product by offering visitors a more authentic experience, expanding our short-term rental market and various strategies to engage and empower budding entrepreneurs in hopes of expanding the middle class. “We are fiercely proud of what we have accomplished and the same shared values that enabled us to build our modern, independent country will help us to build this future of dignity, opportunity, and security for all. We’re going to build that future by creating a more dynamic economy and by making sure that there are ladders leading to success and ownership for those who start life in humbler circumstances.”
Amber Carey, Vice President of Consumer Solutions and Marketing at Cable Bahamas was second to grace the BBO stage. Her presentation focused on the importance of Connectivity as a Catalyst for Economic Growth, citing research on the correlation between a country’s gross domestic product and the connectivity of its citizens. Mrs. Carey challenged attendees to shift their perception of digital connectivity from utility to catalyst for growth and development.
The presentation offered insight into ways that advanced AI and Cloud Computing Technology can present practical solutions for a host of challenges unique to our environment. “AI can be employed to analyse underwater imagery and data, helping us track the health and population levels of key species like the conch and grouper. We can utilize advanced technologies, …to significantly enhance biodiversity monitoring, a vital component of our conservation efforts.” Mrs. Carey also noted how technology can be used to create a more equitable learning environment for students in underserved communities. “Let’s consider the little girl from Rock Sound, Eleuthera and the little boy in Fresh Creek, Andros who may not have access to these digital tools. This can significantly enrich their educational journey, opening new learning opportunities.”
Mrs. Carey was pleased to highlight the steps that the Cable Bahamas Group has taken in expanding and improving its ‘best in class’ network throughout the Bahamas with its $80 Million investment in ALIVFibr. “High-speed connectivity is a key driver for operational efficiency and competitive growth. We need ALIVFibr! Our rollout of ALIVFibr has already made impressive strides, successfully extending our reach to over 50,000 homes and businesses, with plans to maintain this momentum. Currently available in areas including Adelaide, Coral Harbour, Stapledon Gardens, and many more, ALIVFibr is setting a new standard for internet speed and reliability in the region. This not only underscores our commitment to delivering superior, cutting-edge services but also firmly establishes our lead in the market.”
