REV Sponsors Shakespeare in Paradise for 10th Year
REV was proud to serve as a key sponsor for Shakespeare in Paradise, a non-profit theatre festival conceived by Ringplay Productions, for its 10th consecutive year. Ever since the festival’s inception in 2008, the communications company has made it a priority to offer its full support. David Burrows, REV VP of Marketing shared, “We not only provide funding to support the event but we offer our production services to capture these events and ensure that they get to reach a larger audience by broadcasting them on our superior TV platform.”
Festival Director Nicolette Bethel says, “The event was designed to expose locals and visitors to the best in World, Caribbean, African, and African American theatre,” continuing, ”Shakespeare in Paradise celebrates theatre in all its forms, not just Shakespeare.”
Hundreds of students and theatre aficionados got to enjoy the best in Bahamian theatre during two full weeks of daily performances. The festival took place from October 1 – October 13 at the Dundas Centre for the Performing arts in Nassau and featured plays that varied in genre from drama, to comedy.
Der Real Ting!! – which was the festival’s signature Bahamian Production was based on the book written by Philip A. Burrows, Nicolette Bethel and Patrice Francis. Philip A. Burrows directed the sold out production with musical direction by Fred Ferguson and live music by Eddie Minnis. The Shakespearean classic, Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Erin T. Knowles was also a huge a hit among attendees. This year’s event also featured Short Tales. An anthology made up of ten short works by new writers, directed by budding directors including REV employee Stephen Hanna.
Burrows went on to say, “REV is committed to the arts. Whether it is drama, music, or painting. We continue to invest in the culture of our community.”
For interested persons who may have missed out on attending the festival, there is good news. There will be special encore performances of Short Tales running from October 26th to October 28th. REV television subscribers can stay tuned for future show broadcast on OURTV channel 212.
